What Is Ultherapy PRIME?

Ultherapy PRIME is a lifting procedure that delivers micro-focused ultrasound energy to a target depth while checking tissue beneath the skin with real-time ultrasound imaging. It forms small thermal coagulation points, and as the tissue heals afterward, collagen remodeling is induced to help manage skin sagging and elasticity.

Even when sagging looks similar on the surface, skin and fat thickness and the position of tissue can differ. At WayB, the treatment area, depth, and number of lines are planned based on the consultation and ultrasound imaging.

How Is This Different from the Original Ulthera?

Ultherapy PRIME is a successor platform that carries forward DeepSEE, the original Ulthera’s real-time imaging technology, and its micro-focused ultrasound principle. The original Ulthera also had an imaging function to check beneath the skin.

In PRIME, the display and image presentation, along with the system’s processing speed and ease of use, have been improved. These changes help the physician check tissue and carry out treatment planning. Actual treatment time, pain, and results vary depending on the area, number of lines, settings, and skin condition.

Who Is It Suitable For?

  • When the jawline has become less defined or sagging of the lower face is a concern
  • When sagging around the eyebrows makes the eye area look heavy
  • When you feel the skin has become loose and lost elasticity
  • When you want to discuss a non-surgical lifting method

Volume loss (hollowing) and skin sagging need to be distinguished. For faces with little fat or where hollowing is already pronounced, the need for and scope of the procedure are judged carefully. When sagging is severe, the limitations of non-surgical procedures are explained together.

Things to Check Before the Procedure

Please let us know about any wounds, inflammation, or severe acne at the treatment site, any implanted electronic medical devices or metal implants, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding. History of fillers, thread lifting, surgery, and other energy-based procedures, as well as medications and skin conditions, are also checked.

The manufacturer’s guidance does not recommend directly treating areas where filler is present. How much time has passed since the previous procedure, along with the type and location of the product, is checked to determine the treatable scope and schedule.

How Does It Work?

When ultrasound energy is focused at the target depth, small thermal coagulation points form. As the tissue heals afterward, collagen is remodeled, and changes in skin elasticity and sagging can be expected.

1.5, 3.0, and 4.5mm refer to the focal depths of the transducers. Even the same 4.5mm does not necessarily correspond to the fascial layer in every person and every area. This is why the actual position of the tissue is checked with imaging before selecting the depth.

DeepSEE imaging is used to check the position of the target tissue and how closely the handpiece is in contact with the skin. Even with the imaging function, the risk of side effects is not eliminated, so the treatment area, settings, and skin response must be reviewed together.

Does a Higher Shot Count Mean Better Results?

The number of treatment lines is planned to match skin condition and treatment area. Even with the same number of lines, the treatment content differs depending on how they are distributed across depth and position.

At WayB, the total shot count is explained along with the depth and distribution for each area. Treatment is planned to adequately manage the necessary area while avoiding unnecessary overlapping treatment and unwanted volume changes.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

  • Consultation and examination: Sagging and hollowing are distinguished, and skin condition, treatment history, and desired changes are checked.
  • Photographs and marking the area: Photos are taken for before-and-after comparison, and the treatment area and areas to avoid are marked.
  • Pain management and preparation: Preparation is tailored to individual sensitivity, and ultrasound gel is applied.
  • Imaging and treatment: Energy is delivered while checking depth and contact status by referring to real-time imaging.
  • Aftercare guidance: Skin response is checked immediately after the procedure, and precautions during recovery and symptoms that require contacting the clinic are explained.

When EVE MUSE is used, it is referenced for facial surface condition, left-right differences, and progress comparison. Checking tissue beneath the skin is done with Ultherapy PRIME’s ultrasound imaging.

How Long Does the Procedure Take?

Treatment time varies depending on the number of shots received and the treatment area. The visit schedule is guided by also taking into account the time needed for consultation, preparation, and anesthesia.

When Do Results Appear, and How Long Do They Last?

A tightening sensation or change may be felt right after the procedure, but since temporary swelling is mixed in, this is not judged as the final result. Changes in skin and contour are then observed over about 2 to 3 months.

A single procedure may produce effects that last about a year or longer. However, individual differences exist in the effect and duration, and they are influenced by skin condition, weight changes, and lifestyle habits. Rather than repeating on a fixed schedule, the next procedure is planned based on the initial response and subsequent progress.

Recovery and Precautions

  • Temporary redness, swelling, warmth, and tenderness may occur.
  • Numbness or a tingling sensation, and changes in facial expression movement, may occur — please let the clinic know of any symptom that differs from what was expected.
  • During the recovery period, avoid strong massage, treatments that irritate the skin, and excessive heat exposure, and maintain moisturizing and sun protection.
  • The interval before other injection, laser, or thread procedures is determined by checking the type of procedure, area, and recovery status.
  • If you have an important schedule coming up, please let us know during the consultation. Recovery speed varies from person to person.

If you experience blistering or oozing, worsening redness or pain, one-sided changes in sensation or facial expression movement, or unexpected hollowing or contour changes, please contact the clinic. If symptoms worsen, do not wait out the set recovery period — get checked right away.

How WayB Approaches This

Checking Beneath the Skin

We use ultrasound imaging to check skin and fat thickness and tissue position, considering both the visible contour and the structure beneath it.

Area-by-Area Planning

We plan the treatment area, depth, and number of lines. We assess thin-skinned or volume-deficient areas and areas with prior filler or surgery separately.

Treating While Checking Imaging and Response

The procedure proceeds while checking handpiece contact and target depth. If discomfort is significant, you can let the medical staff know right away, and the treatment process is adjusted according to pain sensitivity and skin response.

Frequently asked questions about Ultherapy PRIME
FAQ
A.

The original Ulthera also had the DeepSEE real-time imaging function. PRIME is a successor platform that carries this forward while improving the display and image presentation, system processing performance, and ease of use.

A.

Heat, stinging, and deep sensations may be felt, and this varies by area and individual sensitivity. Pain management and adjustment of the treatment process reduce the burden, and the procedure proceeds while checking for discomfort.

A.

A number of lines suited to skin condition and treatment area is needed. Along with the total amount, where the lines are actually distributed by depth and position matters, so rather than simply increasing the number, treatment is planned based on examination and imaging.

A.

An initial change may be felt, but gradual change is generally observed over about 2 to 3 months. Swelling right after the procedure is distinguished from long-term changes in elasticity.

A.

Whether to have an additional procedure is decided by checking the change and how well it has been maintained after the initial procedure. Effects may last about a year or longer, but because there are individual differences, the same repeat cycle is not applied to everyone.

A.

Generally, Ultherapy PRIME can be considered starting from about one month after filler or thread lifting, once skin condition has been checked. However, the timing is adjusted depending on the type and location of the product used and the recovery status, such as swelling or inflammation. The area and depth are planned to avoid directly treating areas where filler has been injected, and thread lifting history is also checked.
