Summary at a Glance

Item Details
Ingredient/Mechanism Microwave (Coolwaves, 2.45GHz). Delivers heat to the subcutaneous tissue to improve the elasticity of the skin and subcutaneous tissue. The heat is preferentially delivered to the fat layer
Depth Reached Centered on the subcutaneous fat layer + dermis. Two types of handpieces — for deep and shallow layers — are used according to the area (with surface cooling)
Suitable For The indication approved by Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) is improvement of skin and subcutaneous tissue elasticity (abdomen, thighs, etc.). Used for areas where both elasticity and fat are a concern, such as the double chin; other areas such as the cheeks are determined during consultation
Procedure Time A few minutes to 30 minutes (varies by area)
Anesthesia/Pain Level Generally no anesthesia needed. A warm sensation of heat moving across the area
Onset of Effect 1–2 months
Duration Around 6 months, cumulative with repeated treatments (varies by individual)
Recommended Frequency/Interval About 3–4 sessions at 4-week intervals
Downtime Redness and warmth may appear; recovery varies by individual
Main Side Effects Temporary redness, swelling, warmth; rarely, a sense of nodularity or burns; differences between the left and right sides depending on the area
Manufacturer/Approval DEKA (200W output, Coolwaves 2.45GHz). MFDS-approved indication: improvement of skin and subcutaneous tissue elasticity

What Is Onda?

Onda is a procedure that uses 2.45GHz microwave energy. It delivers heat to the fat beneath the skin and the surrounding tissue to manage localized fat and skin elasticity. During the procedure, the skin surface is cooled, and the range and intensity are adjusted according to the amount of fat and the thickness of the skin.

Onda is considered when both fat accumulation and skin laxity are a concern together. On the face, it is applied to the double chin and jawline; on the body, it addresses localized fat, cellulite, and reduced elasticity in areas such as the abdomen and thighs.

Who Is It Suitable For?

  • Cases where sagging skin blurs the jawline and creates the appearance of a double chin
  • Localized fat that remains in specific areas even after weight loss
  • Those who want to address skin elasticity and fat together
  • Cellulite and elasticity concerns on the body (using body-specific tips)

What to Check Before the Procedure

  • If the cause of sagging is the structure of the fascial layer: other options such as Ultherapy PRIME are also considered together.
  • If the cause of a wide lower face is the masseter (chewing) muscle: Botulinum Toxin may also be an option to consider.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding, use of electronic medical devices such as pacemakers, metal implants in the area, acute inflammation or infection

How Does It Work?

When microwaves reach the tissue, molecules vibrate and generate heat. This heat acts on fat cells and the surrounding connective tissue to induce volume reduction and tissue remodeling, while also stimulating collagen in the dermis to improve elasticity.

The handpiece’s cooling keeps the epidermal temperature low, so it is designed to deliver heat to deeper layers while reducing the heat burden on the skin surface. Treatments are divided into multiple sessions because changes in fat and tissue do not occur all at once but accumulate over time.

When Does the Effect Begin, and How Long Does It Last?

  • Immediately after: Warmth and mild redness.
  • 2–4 weeks: Swelling subsides and changes in contour begin.
  • 1–2 months: Changes become more noticeable as sessions accumulate.
  • Around 6 months: Effects are maintained, varying with weight and lifestyle habits.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

  • Consultation: We determine whether fat, sagging, or muscle is the main cause, and decide on the area and number of sessions.
  • Preparation: After oil is applied, the handpiece is moved across the area to deliver energy. Anesthesia is generally not needed.
  • Treatment: A warm sensation of heat moves across the area; depending on the treatment area and range, it takes anywhere from a few minutes to about 30 minutes.
  • Finishing: After soothing care, you may go home. Same-day return to daily activities is possible.

Recovery and Precautions

  • Redness and warmth generally subside within a few hours.
  • Avoid saunas, strenuous exercise, and alcohol on the day of treatment.

Please Contact the Clinic If

  • Blisters, oozing, or burn marks appear
  • A firm nodule remains at the treatment site for a long time
  • Redness or pain worsens for several days or more

How WayB Approaches This

  • We use separate tips for the face and body, since the area and depth requirements differ.
  • If the cause of a wide lower face is muscular, we recommend Botulinum Toxin instead of Onda. Determining the cause first is the standard we follow.
  • We adjust the order of areas and intensity according to the Comfort Standard.
Frequently asked questions about Onda
FAQ
A.

It is not a treatment for reducing weight, but one that addresses localized fat and elasticity in specific areas. It is considered separate from weight management.

A.

We generally recommend 3–4 sessions at about 4-week intervals as a base. This varies depending on the area and goal.

A.

It is generally performed without anesthesia, with a warm sensation of heat moving across the area. Areas closer to the bone may feel slightly more stimulation.

A.

Yes. The two treatments differ in how they deliver energy and in their treatment purpose, so they can be planned together. It is possible to receive both on the same day; the order, range, and intensity of treatment are determined after checking the amount of fat and skin condition.

Body-specific tips are used on the abdomen, thighs, and arms. Please refer to the body-specific page for details.
